Angelina Joliehad a small appearance in the movieGone in 60 Seconds(2000), where she played Nicolas Cage’s ex-girlfriend. The premiere of the film was one of Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton’s first public appearances together and they made it memorable by sharing their pre-premiere activities on the red carpet. During an interview with MTV, the couple was asked what was the most exciting thing they had done either individually or together. Thornton said:
“I think it was today. My favorite one in a car was today, just before we got here. You want me to be honest with you? We f***ed in the car on the way here.”

The couple then continued kissing and cuddling on the red carpet in front of the paparazzi, letting the media consume their private lives. In a later US Weekly interview, Jolie spoke about how much in love they were. The actress said:
“The other day we were mentioning how I needed to get one of those heart monitors on me because I’m convinced I’m going to have a heart attack. He kissed me the other day and I nearly fainted. I swear on my family’s lives. I nearly fell over.”
However, despite the intensity of their relationship, the two didn’t last. Jolie and Thornton stayed together for just two years. They separated in 2002 before divorcing in 2003.

In an interview with Vogue in 2004, Angelina Jolie clarified what went so wrong in her relationship with Billy Bob Thornton that they had to part ways within 2 years of marriage. The actress said that it was because they both changed as people. As per Jolie:
“It took me by surprise too because overnight, we totally changed. Because we’re actors, we go away for months at a time and you grow and change separately. I think one day we had just nothing in common. And it’s scary but … I think it can happen when you get involved and you don’t know yourself yet. It’s taken me a while to grow up, and I still think I’m not even close to it yet. So I’ve kind of had to check myself: Don’t even consider a relationship for another seven, eight years.”
