Reflecting on her journey, the former Scientologist revealed that just two years ago, she possessed only an 8th-grade education due to spending 35 years within a cult. She said,

Leah Remini was open about her three decades in Scientology and her decision to leave the Church. In 2013, she made the momentous choice to part ways with the organization, fully aware that it wouldn’t be a simple journey.

Introduced to Scientology by her mother at the age of 8, she remained a member for 35 years. During her teenage years, she even lived at the church’s Sea Org headquarters in Clearwater, Florida, engaging in manual labor and dedicated service.She said,

“I’ve been given a second chance at life and so has my family. It’s like a rebirth.”

The artist expressed gratitude for the second chance at life that leaving the church has afforded her and her family.

In her book,Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology,she details her experiences within the religion and her growing disappointment including questioning the actions of church officials.

However, The Church of Scientology denies many of her claims and dismissed her findings as attention-seeking publicity stunts. They said,

“It comes as no surprise that someone as self-absorbed as Leah Remini with an insatiable craving for attention would exploit her former faith as a publicity stunt.”

Despite the criticism, Remini’s honesty resonates with those seeking insight into the inner workings of Scientology.

Telling her story in the book was not an easy task for her, as she acknowledges her flaws and vulnerabilities. However, her openness provides a rare glimpse into the secretive workings of the institution.
