Superheroes and fitness go hand-in-hand. Most of the fans’ favorite superheroes are anything but their most shredded version on-screen. However, Thor’s look inAvengers: Endgamecould be an exception, but Chris Hemsworth didn’t really gain weight but wore a fat suit instead. On the other hand, X-Men veteran actor Hugh Jackman has had to undergo massive transformations, owing to his role as the Wolverine in the franchise.

The intense diet regimes and training often interfere with the actors’ well-being. A recent social media post highlighted the matter by drawing a contrast between Jackman’s physique in 2000’sX-MenandDays of Future Past14 years later. While it was visibly a stark comparison, fans seemed concerned and discouraged such rigorous fitness levels for actors.

Hugh Jackman’s physique sparks a discussion on fitness
While fitness has eternally been considered healthy, the expectation levels for actors appearing ripped may have attained an unhealthy connotation. The original post by Discussing Film shed light on Hollywood star Paul Rudd’s comment on his intense diet forAnt-Man.Following an uncomfortable diet, Rudd was prohibited from a lot of food items. The actor toldThe Hollywood Reporter,
“When I was having to train for the Ant-Man movie, and I was on a very restrictive diet, my reward was sparkling water. That’s how horrible that diet was. I was like, ‘Alright, I’m gonna have some sparkling water now, I’ve earned it.’”

Similarly, another fan reshared the tweet with their added insight. The conversation steered towardsHugh Jackman’s physical transformation over the years. WithDeadpool 3set to hit theatres next year, fans will witness Jackman’s Wolverine after a seven-year hiatus, perVariety. The 55-year-old actor last appeared in 2017’sLogan.
This is too much, being in shape is one thing, but for ages we’ve had the unending, unattainable creeping level of fitness for superheroes. Look at how much BIGGER Hugh Jackman had to get as Wolverine each time; compare X-men 1 to Days of Future Past.https://t.co/5oiDo79Etupic.twitter.com/eS6Nantfky

While MCU fans are enthralled, they also seem irked by the strenuous training he might be doing to appear more robust than before. Simultaneously, Jackman often teases some of his workout routines and cheat meals onInstagramwhich further confirms the fact.

MCU fans vote against extreme levels of fitness for actors
Taking to Twitter, several fans flooded the comments section with a range of reactions. However, most fans empathized with the ordeal the actors portraying superheroes had to go through. However, there were some comments who found it logical to train excessively since the actors represented superheroes.
Here are some of the reactions from fans:
Really think about it, in the past, Harrison Ford as Indy was suave, manly, badass, but he didn’t need an 8 pack, neither did any of the Bonds or Keaton, or other protags. It’s now a requirement to be in this shape, but it’s never enough, they always have to be bigger each time.
Keep in mind, they are starved of water leading to these scenes as well. Probably hasn’t had a sip of water for damned near 36 hours at that point.

Hugh’s also said that he’s pushed himself to get that big. I would just hope that Hugh stays hydrated. Cause there’s been some news where he’s passed out and not been drinking proper water ..
Just want actors to not hurt themselves.

Because they’re superheroes. They’re supposed to look super. They’re a fantasy ideal. How do you not understand this?

It’s a power fantasy, it is intentional that the actors who play these character try and look like the source material as much as possible. Otherwise you get Thor: Love and Thunder kinds of CGI cringe trying to artificially make actors look like the characters.

It is expected that Jackman will reprise his fan-favorite character of Wolverine, out-doing his prior physique inDeadpool 3. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that at 55, Jackman can only appear as fit as his body permits him to. Moreover, unreasonable standards of fitness can only result in unfortunate scenarios for the actors.
