The film revolves around the late American composer Leonard Bernstein played by Cooper and his wife Felicia Montealegre(Carey Mulligan). It is garnering negative attention due to his physical trait that triggered criticism over anti-semitism.

Given thatBradley Cooperhas taken the lead in the upcomingMaestro,the film is garnering public interest but all for the wrong reason.
The center of this whole anti-semitism controversy is inclined towards his pointy nose which is evidently visible in the teaser of the film which has divided the fans as to why prosthetics were even needed for his nose since he naturally has an elongated nose.
That very physical trait has long been associated as a key feature with Jews, making Cooper’s portrayal in the film a heated topic among fans. Many found his large nose prosthetics offensive deeming it a Jewish stereotype.
He was also under fire since many pointed out that a Jewish actor was not chosen to play the Jewish role, which further put fire on the ongoing fiasco.

Now that his work is highly debated, his makeup team got criticized for their ‘irrelevant’ decision of using elongated nose prosthetics to accentuate his physical feature to give a resemblance to the late composer, Leonard Bernstein.
Online commentators took this issue to Twitter and even compared his portrayal with the original photograph of Bernstein only to find little to no resemblance. Many pointed out that his role would have found a resemblance to the late composed had the makeup team decided to focus on his other traits like eyebrows.

While the heat continues to bring the movie in a negative light,Bernstein’s children Jamie, Alexander, and Nina in an online statement defended the Marvel actor’s portrayal stating that they are“perfectly fine”with it.
They wrote,
“It breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentations or misunderstandings of [Cooper’s] efforts … Bradley chose to use makeup to amplify his resemblance, and we’re with that. We’re also certain that our dad would have been fine with it as well.”
Being produced by Cooper, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese among others, it is set for limited release on November 22. It will be available to stream on Netflix on December 20.
