While the public image of a star is based on many things, the most profound impact that they can have on the audience is through the characters that they bring to life in their films. Among many of these stars, Robert Downey Jr. has made himself a legend in the eyes of the public for some of the most intense character portrayals in modern-day cinema.

And after more than a decade and numerous films, the star finally bid farewell to the franchise that he helped build in 2019’sAvengers: Endgame.But while many people were wondering what his next move in the industry might be, he had already thought about it.
In a recent interview, theSherlock Holmesstar, along with his leading co-starCillian Murphywas being interviewed about all the things related to their upcoming film. In between talking about their knowledge of the titular scientist and how their roles complemented each other on-screen, Downey Jr. also revealed the reason that he chose this film after quitting as Iron Man in the MCU. Apart from the fact thatChristopher Nolanwas the director of the film, the other reason he stated was:
“There’s themes in this film about being held up in this rarified air for something that you’re so conflicted about, It was … nice to have the pressure off because I let this guy [Murphy] do the heavy lifting, I’d come in and [go] ‘I had four days off. I was just antiquing aroundSanta Fe. What have you been up to?’ And he’d be like, ‘Uhhh…you wanna run the lines?’ He was also at all the locations where there were like 60-mile-an-hour winds and all that stuff. I hung out for the pleasant fair, weather-wise.”
Therefore, an intriguing story with a master storyteller helming the project, along with working with his very talented and highly revered co-star were the major reasons why RDJ found this film to be what he wanted to do.
What To Expect FromOppenheimer?
Taking the tale of the father of the atomic bomb from the pages of history, the upcoming film is set to focus on J. Robert Oppenheimer, who led the top-secret Manhattan Project under the United States Government to create a weapon that could give the county a leading edge in World War II. While the film may seem like it will be a history lesson, many early reviewers have called this film a horror flick, which further excites the audience who are patiently waiting for its release.
