The art of filmmaking is just that, an art, which requires an artist to use his brush of vision and expression to paint beautiful moving art pieces and bring them to cinema for the world to marvel at them. And no one else can do it better than the one and only Quentin Tarantino, the man that is hailed as one of the most accomplished and gifted directorial talents in the industry.

Revered for his creative style, the legendary director has been graced with both critical and commercial praise, not to mention, recognition from the supervising authorities. But taking a step back and looking at the past, there was a time when he was the underdog, and people within the industry didn’t want to see him win.
Quentin Tarantino Flipped Th Finger To The Audience At The Cannes Film Festival!
As they say, art is unique to the artist who created it, which fits perfectly with the nature of directorQuentin Tarantino. Known for his uncanny and unique crime drama films which are chock-full of violent scenes, as well as extensive dialogues, the director has created his own way of expression through his films. But during the early days, when he was still a budding creator, his film was not received too well by the audience at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, until it won one of the most prestigious awards of the festival. And when it did, Tarantino didn’t hesitate to rub it in their faces.
The aforementioned film was none other than the director’s most iconic projectPulp Fiction,a movie that is revered to this day as one of the best works in the history of cinema. While it may be hard to imagine this film getting that kind of negative reception today, the 90s was the time when it was one of the most controversial films ever seen by anyone. Thus, mixed with the fact that theDjango Unchaineddirector was relatively new in the industry made it a good target to be disliked at the 1994 Cannes.

Along with the controversy surrounding the film,Krzysztof Kieslowski‘s critical favoriteRedlost to the aforementioned film by Tarantino. This annoyed everyone even more as they booed at the director as well as the film when he received his Palme d’Or during the festival. Seeing as he had won, the creator didn’t hesitate to flip his middle finger at everyone present in the audience to let them know he was here to stay and thrive.
Why WasPulp FictionSo Controversial?
The beauty ofPulp Fictionlies in its magic to enchant the audience and keep their focus on itself. Audiences are left breathless as they witness the perfect rollercoaster ride of emotions as fluctuations in intensity rise and fall rapidly, induced through the medium of drama, action, thrills, intelligence, romance, vulgarity, and humor.
But at the same time, the film was the center of controversies due to the raw and rustic nature of Tarantino’s expression. From the excessive use of the N-Word to homophobia and the one particularly horrifying scene from the film was enough for many to disregard this film from the get-go. But looking back at it now, people understand the artistic view of the director, which has led to the film being so highly regarded.
