Eddie Murphy’s Attachment To The Beverly Hills Cop Franchise

Eddie Murphy’sBeverly Hills Copfranchise is perhaps the work he is most well known for, as said by the actor who mentioned that despite all of the movies he has been in, his work as Axel Foley is the one that he is most recognized for. The franchise consists of three movies as of this date, with the fourth one releasing soon. All of the films were released within the space of ten years, with the first film released in 1984 and the third film coming out in 1994.

“That movie has to be right,”he once said in an interview.“The third Beverly Hills Cop was garbage. Those movies, when I travel overseas, people say [in a foreign accent] ‘Hey, Beverly Hills Cop! Axel Foley!’ They call me that s***. All the movies I’ve done, and they call me that. If we do that movie, it has to be right.”

A fact that is well-known amongst the fans of this franchise, as well as Murphy himself, is thatBeverly Hills Cop 3was perhaps the worst film in the franchise. TheComing to Americaactor did not was to end one of his most impactful projects on such a note, and so for a long time, Murphy has been looking for a good enough script to bring back this character.

Eddie Murphy Was Approached By Quentin Tarantino ForBeverly Hills Cop 4

Eddie Murphy has revealed that in the past, he has rejected around five to six scripts for the fourthBeverly Hills Copmovie. One person who approached the project in a unique way was the highly respected director,Quentin Tarantino. Murphy revealed that the two discuss this subject while Tarantino was trying to write Murphy a role in his 2009 film, Django Unchained.

“There’s been talk. Nothing solid yet. Quentin is insane but good insane. He came to me with an idea for another Cop, and we’ve been talking about that. If it comes off, great – he’s one crazy guy worth working with,”he said.

Murphy revealed that the idea that Tarantino came up with was ‘insane’, however, the good kind of ‘insane’. The actor went on to say that the worked on the for a little while, adding that Tarantino was a very unique and enthusiastic man to work with.
