The Pentagon, however, was furious with Jon Favreau and Marvel Studios over a single line in theIron Manscript because they thought it would encourage censorship and a negative portrayal of the military.

Jon Favreau Almost Made The Pentagon MCU’s Enemy
Jon Favreau was the director of the first MCU movie,Iron Man,and things were not so good for the franchise as they only had one shot at success. Although the movie lived up to its expectations and saved the franchise from its downfall, the film, and Favreau almost had a major falling out with the Pentagon with matters related to its script.
Phil Strub, the entertainment liaison of the Pentagon’s Entertainment Media Office wanted to ensure that the movie portrayed the armed forces in a positive light and also showed the proper chain of command of the military. But even though the script was approved, the Department of Defence and MCU clashed on many instances regarding the film.

“It never got resolved until we were in the middle of filming. We’re on the flight lines of Edwards Air Force Base, and there’s 200 people, and Favreau and I are having an argument about this. He’s getting redder in the face and I’m getting just as annoyed.”
