Nothing Phone (3) To Use This New Processor With 5 Years Of OS Updates

Nothing, the smartphone company, has finally shared details about its flagship, the Phone (3). With Carl Pei claiming the Phone (3) will be its first “true flagship”, the choice of processor used has antagonized many. Apart from the “not-so-flagship” chip, Pei has also revealed the Phone (3) will be the longest supported Nothing device to date. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Nothing CEO Carl Pei has revealed that theNothing Phone (3)will use theSnapdragon 8s Gen 4. Pei states that the 8s Gen 4 offers 36 per cent better performance than the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in the Phone (2).

He also claims the Phone (3) will have 88% better GPU and NPU performance. Interestingly, Nothing compares the performance of its upcoming phone with that of a two-year-old device rather than its competitors.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is based on a 4nm process and relies on Kyro cores instead of the Oryon found in the 8 Elite. It has performance comparable to last year’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Akis Evangelidis, the co-founder of Nothing, said that 8 Gen 3 has a weaker GPU, NPU, and ISP compared to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. He also revealed that default software support for the chip is 4 years.

Given its 800 Euros price tag, many people were hoping for a flagship processor likeMediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plusor theSnapdragon 8 Elite. However, Nothing seems to have cut down costs by opting for a flagship killer chipset.

Phone (3) To Get 5 Years Of OS And 7 Years Of Security Updates

Despite the controversial processor choice, Nothing seems to have gotten at least one thing right: software support. With the Nothing Phone (3), the company is promising 5 years of OS and 7 years of security patches.

This makes it the longest supported Nothing Phone to date. For comparison, theNothing Phone (3a) Progets 3 years of OS and 6 years of security updates.

Also, when pitted against last year’s Phone (2), it has three years of OS and four years of security updates. So if you want a phone for long-term usage, the Phone (3) should serve you well.

Set tolaunch on July 1, the Phone (3) will be the most expensive phone from the company. It will have a price between $799-$899 and willbe available officially in the US.
