Neil Gaiman’s critically acclaimedSandmanis finally coming to Netflix. Starring Tom Sturridge as Dream, the live-action adaptation boasts a stellar cast consisting of Boyd Holbrook, Gwendoline Christie, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, and Sanjeev Bhaskar. Based on the titular comic book series, the series has been long-awaited by fans of the universally acclaimed storyline penned by Neil Gaiman, with David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg serving as developers.

The talks of bringingSandmanto the big screen were first started back in 1991 when the series was still ongoing. Later, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was attached to the project in 2013 for a film adaptation. However, the actor backed out due to creative differences. After years of being stuck in development hell, the streaming giant Netflix finally picked it for a live-action series in 2019.
Earlier in May, the first teaser ofSandmanwas released revealing Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer Morningstar alongside Tom Sturridge’s Dream. Now, the streaming giant has released an ominous new trailer revealing Dream’s escape and the chaos that ensues. Check out the latest trailer:

Netflix’s Sandman Reveals Tom Sturridge’s Glorious Dream
In the latest trailer, Sturridge’s Dream, one of the seven Endless, escapes his imprisonment. Based on the series penned by Neil Gaiman, Dream belongs to an ancient race of beings called the Endless consisting of Death, Despair, Destiny, Destruction, Desire, and Delirium. These powerful beings are considered to be older than the gods and rule over their eponymous realms.

In the storyline, humanity once attempted to capture Death through a ritual. However, the ritual ended up imprisoning Dream, leaving his realm of nightmares and dreams unattended. As Dream eventually breaks out of his prison on a path of revenge and redemption. The fantasy series has often been regarded as one of the greatest comic books ever written, often being compared with Alan Moore’sWatchmen.

As per the latest trailer,Sandmanis slated to release on June 04, 2025. Though the series was announced back in 2019, the pandemic delayed production and filming, pushing the show to 2022. As part of Netflix’s Geeked Week, the latest trailer also revealed its latest cast member: Mark Hamill. TheStar Warsactor will be playing the role of Mervyn Pumpkinhead, Dream’s janitor in the series.
Sandmanwill premiere on Netflix on July 10, 2025.
