Arnold Schwarzenegger Was Told His Body Was Too Big

During his guest appearance on the Team Coco podcast,Arnold Schwarzeneggerwas questioned regarding the genesis of his influence in promoting a trend of embracing fitness over mere leanness as a defining trait of heroism.

According to Arnold Schwarzenegger, there was a growing fascination with the visual representation of heroism, leading to an era in the 80s where having a muscular physique became a prevailing trend. This shift in perspective brought forth a surge of individuals such as Stallone, himself, and Van Damme, who quickly rose to prominence as leading actors in the film industry.

Reflecting on his own journey, Schwarzenegger highlighted the skepticism he faced in the 70s when expressing his desire to pursue acting. Producers and directors were dismissive, citing his substantial physique as a hindrance to his prospects in the field.

Schwarzenegger toldTeam Coco:

“The get fascinated by that and so it became kind of very fashionable that you had to look visually like a hero. So muscles were required. That’s when there was an explosion in the 80s of people like stallone, myself, Van Damme you know all those guys all of a sudden became big stars and were leading men in the movies. The funny thing about it is that in the 70s when I said I wanted into movies, all the producers and directors said to me ‘it was never gonna happen,’ and one the reasons was that my body was too big.”

He asserted that back then people weren’t ready to see heroes with big muscles. However, times have changed, and actors have started taking their physical appearances more seriously.
