As we progress through October, horror games become a lot more common as gamers begin to get in the spooky mood ahead of Halloween. Currently, there are a few different horror games that are getting either new releases or updates in October, but one stands out above the rest.

Releasing on October 27thDon’t Screamis a new-found footage horror game similar toThe Blair Witch Project, butDon’t Screamhas only 18 minutes worth of gameplay. Many will be asking what makes this game unique, especially with only 18 minutes worth of gameplay.
What is Don’t Scream, and Why is it A Unique Horror Gaming Experience?
Don’t Screamis a found-footage horror game that is still in early access and tasks the player with adventuring through the 18 minutes of gameplay without screaming. This is detected through the player’s microphone, which will be calibrated once the player loads into the game.
Depending on the difficulty that the player wants, they can either set their microphone so it is very receptive and captures any whimper, jump, or high-pitched squeak. This is essentially a hard mode, but it is the way the game is intended to be played. There is a mode where players can turn off the scream detector, but where is the fun in that?

Once players refine these settings to the point where they are happy to continue, then the challenge begins. Even though there is only 18 minutes worth of gameplay, it will be chock full of jump scares, horrible noises, and monsters that hide in the dark.
The only way to progress through the game is to keep moving. Once the player stands still, the 18-minute timer will freeze as it waits for the player to carry on moving. This helps to add a bit more pressure to the game as the player controls how long the horrors will continue.

What Happens When Players Reach the End of Horror Game Don’t Scream?
SinceDon’t Screamis only 18 minutes long, players will be wondering what kind of story will be contained within these 18 minutes and how they will progress through it. Shockingly, there is no actual story that will be told withinDon’t Scream, but there will be lore for players to find within.
In place of a story,Don’t Screamwill utilize a lot of dynamic scares and atmospheric story telling to help progress the game. This will help emphasize the horror aspects of the found footage, as players will be expected to explore the forest and find answers on their own.

Since there isn’t any kind of story for the game to follow, the main challenge will be to reach the end of the game without screaming and refreshing the game from the start. Anyone who does reach the end, however, may be disappointed as there may not be any kind of ending, as this game is still in early access.
OnceDon’t Screamreleases on October 27th, it will only be available on Steam, but it won’t finish there. After the game’s early access release, Indie developers Joure and Joe will continue to work on the game and add more content, lore, scares, and optional objectives that will ultimately keep players busy for the 18 minutes they need to survive.
