James Earl Jones On His Career And The Voice Of Darth Vader
His distinct voice sets him apart from other legendary voice actors, and his contribution to theStar Warsfranchise has led him to popularity. After decades of embodying the character, Jones announced in September that he would retire from work.
The good news for fans is that he will remain the voice of Darth Vader as the actor permitted the studio to use his voice in future projects through Artificial Intelligence technology. The most recent one was featured in Disney+Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In 2019, Jones returned to acting after he provided the voice forThe Lion Kingremake. He also returned as King Jaffe Joffer inComing 2 Americain 2021.
When asked byThe New York Timesabout his work as a voice actor, Jones once said:
“You know, I don’t hear the voice you hear. I’m not party to the Darth Vader tone. All I’m doing is using the voice I have to attempt to be as clear as I can with the language I’m using.”
He was also asked if he ever attempted to use the iconic Darth Vader voice when picking up a call, and Jones answered:
“I did that once when I was traveling cross-country. I used Darth as my handle on the CB radio. The truck drivers would really freak out — for them, it was Darth Vader. I had to stop doing that.”
Before Jones became one of the famous voices in Hollywood, he suffered from stuttering. He shared the best advice his teacher gave him, and that is to never listen to your own voice because you might be impressed by it.
