One of the oldest properties of DC Comics, the Justice Society of America is the predecessor of the modern and more popular Justice League of America. Created by Gardner Fox and Sheldon Mayer, the Justice Society of America was the first-ever team of superheroes in comic books.

The Justice Society of America became widely popular during the Golden Age of Comic Books. But soon, their popularity declined in the late 1940s, which paved the path for the Justice League of America to carry the legacy.
In 1961, Gardner Fox introduced the multiverse in DC Comics, which once again brought back the Justice Society of America to the mainstream continuity. InThe Flash of Two Worlds, Jay Garrick made his appearance alongside Barry Allen, which was a pivotal moment for DC Comics.

Despite its popularity among comic book fans, the Justice Society of America is quite underrepresented when it comes to animated or live-action medium. Fortunately, the Justice Society of America has witnessed a sharp growth in its popularity owing to CW’sStargirlwhich has received widespread acclaim upon its release. The JSA has also been teased in CW’sThe Flash, with Jay Garrick making his appearance alongside Barry Allen in the show.
In the recently held DC FanDome event, the Justice Society of America once again came to the limelight. DC Extended Universe’s upcomingBlack Adamwhich stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in the titular role will be going back to its roots. As his origin was set 5000 years before the current timeline,Black Adamwill introduce some of the prominent and most powerful members of the Justice Society of America. Atom Smasher, Hawkman, Doctor Fate, and Cyclone are confirmed to make their debut appearance on the silver screen. As a result, the Justice Society of America has witnessed a sudden spike in popularity.

Capitalizing on the meteoric rise in popularity, Warner Bros. has decided to release an animated movie in 2021. Titled asJustice Society: World War II,it will be the first movie entirely dedicated to the Justice Society of America instead of pushing its characters to a supporting role.

The Justice Society of America consists of some of the most powerful heroes from the Golden Age of Comic Books. Some of the notable members of the JSA are The Flash (Jay Garrick), Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Hawkman, Sandman, Spectre, Doctor Fate, Hourman, Atom, Thunderbolt, Doctor Mid-Nite, Starman, Wonder Woman, Mister Terrific, Wildcat, Black Canary, Star-Spangled Kid, Power Girl, Cyclone, Obsidian, and Wonder Woman II (Queen Hippolyta).

In the widely popular Arrowverse of CW, the Justice Society of America made an appearance inLegends of Tomorrow. The team included Obsidian, Hourman, Commander Steel, Stargirl, Doctor Mid-Nite, and Vixen.
In the recently releasedStargirl, the Justice Society of America was defeated and killed by the Injustice Society. As the show progresses, Courtney Whitmore becomes the chosen one and takes the moniker of Stargirl to recreate the Justice Society of America by recruiting her fellow high school students.
No release date has been released so far regarding theJustice Society: World War II. The animated movie is not connected to the upcomingBlack Adamwhich is slated to be released on 22nd December 2021.
