Thor’s hammer has an enticing origin story in both MCU and Norse Mythology, Mjolnir’s treatment in Marvel movies has resulted in it becoming an essential character, the center of many jokes, and a deadly weapon. Only the God of Thunder can use the weapon in the myth and MCU.
Thor’s hammer is an integral part of his character and story. From the forging of the hammer, losing it, and then finally proving himself worthy enough for it has been an incredible journey for both Thor and the audience. It is understandable why there are so many theories around the mythical weapon and the God who dons it.
Neil deGrasse Tyson solved one mystery pertaining to Mjolnir
Neil deGrasse Tyson calculated Thor’s Hammer weight from just one dialogue, it said that the hammer was forged in the heart of a dying star, and this enabled Tyson to calculate the weight of the Hammer. Being a man of science he put his thinking cap on and went at it, soon Tyson came to an answer that left him spellbound.
“If Thor’s hammer is made of neuron-star matter, implied by the legend, then it weighs as much as a herd of 300-billion elephants”
The insurmountable weight of the hammer is why even Hulk could not pick the Hammer up, it needs the magical powers of Thor, and only then he can pick up the deadly weapon. Tyson’s curiosity and interest in astrophysics nudged him to find the answer to a question that has been in the minds of many fans of the MCU. This is not the first time Tyson has openly supported the MCU saying he has been an MCU fan for a long time now.

Neil deGrasse Tyson’s scientific reasons to support Marvel
The Astrophysicist has been vocal about his affiliation with Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, there is just one simple reason why he prefers the MCU over DC or another comic book. In an interview with ComicBooks.com Tyson was asked if DC would ever get a nod from him, he said,
“Oh yeah. No question. Oh, there’s no question. Oh, it’s obvious. Marvel wins that contest hands down over DC Comics if for no other reason than almost, minus Thor and maybe one or two others that I’ve lost track of, almost everyone with powers in Marvel Comics, those powers are derived from something scientific that happened to them.”
