Channing Tatum Revealed HisMagic MikeShape ‘Is Not Natural’
Channing Tatumhas talked openly about how his recognizableMagic Mikephysique actually came to be. In his previous interview onThe Kelly Clarkson Show,The Lost Cityactor admitted that the physical demands of playing the fictional male stripper nearly prevented him from returning forMagic Mike 3.
As he and Kelly Clarkson were discussing, a large screen behind him was showing a picture of Tatum bare-chested and his character inMagic Mike XXL.The actor, 43, said of the picture:

“That might be the reason why I didn’t want to do a third one, because I have to look like that.”
After that, Tatum continued to discuss important concepts related to male body image and what goes into creating the wildly exaggerated male forms we see in movies like theMagic Mikeseries.

“It’s hard to look like that. Even if you do work out, to be that kind of in shape is not natural. That’s not even healthy. You have to starve yourself. I don’t think when you’re that lean, it’s actually healthy.”
He also mentioned how acting often requires him to strip off his clothes, which has helped him maintain a good physique:

“As someone who works out for a job, I promise you I would not look like this unless I had to be naked in most of my movies mostly. At some point I have to get better at acting so I don’t have to be n*ked in all of them.”

Sandra Bullock’sThe Lost Cityco-star, Channing Tatum finds it very challenging to put in the necessary amount of training, diet rigor, and consistency, even when it is your job to get in shape for a role. This prompted him to say that he had no idea how people with both family and work obligations managed to stay in shape. To quote him:
“I don’t know how people who work a 9 to 5 actually stay in shape because it’s my full-time job, and I can barely do it.”
Tatum was dieting “completely right”, i.e., only allowing himself dull, tasteless meals, and exercising twice a day to get in shape. Since avoiding sodium was a key component of theMagic Mikelook, he claimed that salt was what he missed the most:
“Just everything tastes like, I don’t know, tastes like water. It’s nothing.”
Additionally, he talked about the all-too-familiar experience of working out for weeks or even months to get lean:
“Why – when it takes like, I don’t know, two months to get really lean – in three days, you can lose it? It’s gone. I was like, ‘What happened?’”
