Everyone knows that Mark Wahlberg remains undefeated when it comes to working on his physique. The actor switches his body according to what his role requires and on top of that, makes it seem absolutely effortless. In fact, he once transformed his body to such an extent that he impressed WWE legend, Dwayne Johnson himself.

Once, Mark Wahlberg opened up about how he prepares his mind and body for a role, stating that he’ll do anything possible to reach his goal. However, for the 2012 film,Contraband, neither did Mark Wahlberg have the time to train properly nor did he think he needed to. Instead of focusing on his training, the actor was eating and drinking his days away!

During an interview with Collider,Mark Wahlbergwas asked about how he trains for his projects and whether he spends more time in the gym than usual or not. The actor replied stating that he usually gives it his 110% when it comes to mentally and physically preparing for a film.

However,Contrabandcame at a time when Wahlberg had just gotten done withFighter(2010). He had stopped training and was enjoying a life full of delicious meals and wine. Unfortunately, the award season came and Wahlberg couldn’t find much time to train forContraband.
“I’ll do whatever I have to do to prepare physically and mentally for a movie, but for this particular movie, this was right after we had finally finished Fighter and it was coming out and I had stopped training, so I was just eating like a pig and drinking a lot of wine. Then we were going through all the awards season stuff with Fighter while we were shooting, so I really didn’t have a lot of time to train.”

Luckily, Wahlberg did not feel that hisContrabandcharacter needed to flaunt a perfectly ripped physique with an almost negligible body-fat percentage.
“But this didn’t seem like the kind of guy who was in the gym anyway. He was running a small business, trying to take care and provide for his family. Then he’d have to go out and jump on the boat and dive right into this thing. So, not a lot of that stuff.”

Contrabandwent on to make $96 million on a budget of $25 million. It was met with mixed reviews from critics, who thought that while the movie was entertaining, it was yet another Hollywood cliché.

Physical Transformations are Taking a Toll on Mark Wahlberg
While he sure can transform his body however he wants, it is now starting to get a bit difficult for Mark Wahlberg. He once opened up about how his drastic transformation forFather Stutook a significant toll on him physically, especially because of his age.
Wahlberg was about fifty years old when he started working onFather Stu.During his appearance on theKyle & Jackie Oradio show, the actor was asked if it was easier to get in shape or stay in shape. He replied,
“I would say it’s easier to stay in shape than it is to get in shape. I put on 30 pounds…that was really difficult. I’m not getting any younger.”
He elaborated on the topic during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, where he talked about how the transformation took a heavy toll on him.
“I put on thirty pounds and went from being a guy who was in fighting shape to a guy who was wheelchair-bound, suffering from a rare muscular degenerative disease. I was just turning 50 by the time we finished the movie and I was eating 11,000 calories a day. That drastic weight gain took a toll on me over the course of the last 7, 8 months.”
While he found it difficult to get back in shape afterFather Stu,he ultimately pulled through and did what he does best. Even today, Mark Wahlberg can be seen religiously working out as he puts his journey on full display on his social media. There’s no stopping the Wahlberg train!
