But it was not magic.One Piece Live Actiondirector Marc Jobst said that Emily Rudd is one of the few actors who surprised everyone with her performance. The showrunners, directors, and producers ofOne Piece Live Actionhave always praised the cast for their amazing performances throughout the series.
One of the biggest reasons is that Eiichiro Oda watched every audition tape and handpicked them. Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Taz Skylar, and Jacob Romero were all praised for their performances. But Marc Jobst chose Emily Rudd’s Nami as one of the most important characters in the show. In an interview, he explained how Emily Rudd was one of the best actors on the set.
Emily Rudd Was Always Responding DuringOne Piece Live Action
Several people in the cast of Netflix’sOne Piece Live Actionwere more familiar with the anime than others. One of those people on set was Emily Rudd. But that never got to her head. She always did what was told to her. Even if she prepped a little more than expected, it brought weight to the scenes. Moreover, she never complained about how the characters would behave.

During an interview withScreenRantPlus, Marc Jobst said,
“Emily works in the moment. I never felt like she was bringing baggage into the room. I only ever felt that she was always responding in the moment. That is the greatest gift you can have as a director, when you have an actor who steps into a scene with another actor and listens and responds. But doesn’t say, “Well, I don’t think Luffy would do that, or Sanji would do that.” They are just in the moment responding to. If in her preparation for the scenes that she was doing, if she was bringing her knowledge into her prep, I never felt like it got in the way of what we were doing on the floor.”
It is a clear indication that Marc Jobst is fond ofEmily Rudd. Her behavior on set surprised him. She did what she was told and never interfered with anything. According to theOne Piecedirector, he loved working with her since she was mature enough to live in the moment.

Marc Jobst Is Full of Praise For Emily Rudd
During his interview, Marc Jobst was quite vocal about Emily Rudd’s performance. He said,
“She has so much depth for her being. And we were after beautiful spirits. It’s the thing you’re able to’t create on the screen. Screen knows when it’s there. The film will find it in you if it’s there. And with all the actors that we cast, I feel they have that extra element. With Nami, it was really important again, that you cast somebody who has depth to somewhere in their soul in order for the character to be two dimensions.”
Netflix has renewedOne Piece Live Actionfor a second season. Marc Jobst should get ready to be surprised again by Emily Rudd.
