Wanting people to see a serious side in him other than just a handsome vampire, Pattinson wanted to gain some traction by portraying a gangster or other character like that.

In an interview, the actor talked about the time, notable director David Cronenberg offered theTwilightactor a role in his film titledCosmopolis.The movie is based on a billionaire who slowly sees himself fall into self-destruction while ignoring his marital life, health problems, and his financial life, the role was essentially that of a psychopath detaching himself from reality.Robert Pattinsonadmitted that when Cronenberg initially offered him the role, he was too scared to take on the role.

“I suddenly realized I had no idea how to do it at all. I knew it was really good but I was terrified of even calling [David.] Actors are always trained to bull****, even if you hate something. And I had nothing to say, at all. Because David did the script he obviously knows what it’s about. As soon as I said, ‘I don’t know what it’s about,’ he said, ‘Me neither.'”

He further continued,

“Then I spent a week trying to figure out how to get out of it, where I got to the point where I was going to have to call up and say, ‘I’m too scared because I don’t think I’m a good enough actor.’ I didn’t want to have that conversation.”

Luckily for Pattinson, director David Cronenberg told him that he was absolutely the right person for this role and that he hadn’t even seenTwilightbefore offering Robert Pattinson the role.
