It’d be understandable if you had no idea that a Wonder Woman game was even in development. Ever since its announcement back in 2021 by Monolith Productions, nothing more has been said or revealed, at least until the recent update courtesy of System Designer Matty Lanouette, describing their knowledge of Diana and their time at Monolith Productions.

Monolith Productions Pedigree in Gaming
Monolith Productions have quite the caliber in the gaming market, having made both licensed and original games, both to a great quality. Most will know them for their twoLord of the Ringsgames,Shadow of MordorandShadow of War –of which certain gameplay mechanics may be getting borrowed, more on that below – but they also have a huge talent in the horror genre, with their best work coming with theF.E.A.Rfranchise and theCondemnedfranchise.
Over a decade later andthatmannequin scene inCondemned:Criminal Originsstill resonates with a deep fear inside many of us that played the game. Same with some of the tense and atmospheric parts ofF.E.A.R.It’s unusual for a developer to pivot so hard from one genre to the next, but after the success of their twoLord of the Ringsgames, it’s clear to see that as well as first-person horror, they can successfully create and design an open-world action-adventure game too.

It’s unlikely the upcomingWonder Womangame will be taking too much from the horror games the developer has produced, but it has been rumored, as well as discussed in the video below, that the developer will be taking their famous ‘Nemesis’ system and putting it to good use for Diana to come up against. It will no doubt be refined and changed from its last appearance, but how it’ll work inWonder Womanis unknown right now.

Most developers are well-versed in keeping the development of a game relatively quiet, at least until they need to publicize certain pieces of information, but Monolith Productions are on a whole different level. After they announced the game at theDC Fandome, they’ve been completely radio silent regarding the game, concerning some fans. Thankfully, that concern seems to be unnecessary, as thanks to recent job listings and the video above, it seems the development of the game is well and truly underway.

What we know for certain is very minimal, but we do know the Nemesis System will be used, as well as the game being an open-world, action-adventure game, which considering the success of theArkhamverseis no surprise. No word on whether it’ll be live service likeSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but it’s highly unlikely we’ll see any co-op play, due to the nature of the character.
The announcement trailer hints at Diana being called back to Themyscira, with a voice – thought to be Hippolyta – requesting her help. If this is the case, we can expect to be spending a huge amount of time in a city highly inspired by Greek architecture and atmosphere. It’s not been confirmed either way, but expect it to be purely next-gen, and with that comes certain expectations on how big, detailed, and pretty the world and gameplay will be to look at.
With the recent shakeup over at DC Film and TV, with James Gunn recently taking over the reins and announcing that going forward, the comics, video games, films, and tv series will have a cohesive universe to play in.

It is unknown whether the delayedSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueand Monolith Productions’Wonder Womanare going to be changed narratively to accommodate this, but we’ll have to wait and see.
