Hollywood star Sandra Bullock has been one of America’s sweethearts. At the 2006 Academy Awards, Paul Haggis’sCrashbeat massive favorites like Ang Lee’sBrokeback Mountainand Steven Spielberg’sMunichto emerge as the best picture of the year. The film, which had a big and glittering ensemble cast includingSandra Bullock,Matt Dillon, Thandie Newton, Brendan Fraser, and many other Hollywood stars, dealt with issues of racial and social tensions against the backdrop of a horrific crash. While the win was considered a huge upset, the film also faced criticism for using racial stereotypes to get the point across. Director Paul Haggis, though defended his film, was still in agreement about the win and said,
“Was it the best film of the year? I don’t think so. There were great films that year. Good Night, and Good Luck – amazing film. Capote – terrific film. Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain, great film. And Spielberg’s Munich. I mean please, what a year”.
Sandra Bullock, who played a rich and privileged white woman, did fall under the criticism of stereotypical characterization, but nevertheless managed to make an impression by adding nuances to her performance.

“I’m not the kind of person who says, ‘I’m gonna tape myself having s*xual intercourse cos I’m gonna look good! I don’t want to know what my best angles are. Don’t wanna see it. Don’t want to hear it. Therefore, I’m not going to do it on film.”
Despite having a strong opinion regarding intimacy on screen, Sandra Bullock is still one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, including being a very bankable star with a massive fan following.
