While Netflix may be the content-creating factory that brings more than a dozen new shows every week, only about a handful of them truly level their mark with the audience.Sex Education, by far, has been one of the most successful in recent years for the streaming giant, as well as for actor Ncuti Gatwa, who plays the role of Eric Effiong.
As time has gone on with new seasons of the show coming out, the popularity of the Netflix original series has only grown exponentially, and so has the stars’ fame. In one of his interviews, the aforementioned star talked about how becoming famous has been both an exciting and terrifying journey for him these past years.
Ncuti Gatwa Talks About How Fame Scared Him
Every star has that one film, that one TV show, or that one role in either of them that leaves their impression on the audience, and for actorNcuti Gatwa, it wasSex Education. With the first season alone, the Netflix original show saw itself making an impact on the global scale with amazing viewership numbers to match.
This, as a by-product, also meant that the stars involved in the show would be receiving the fame and recognition of the public. But for Gatwa, it seems like the fame was too much to take in at first.
In a past interview withNetflix, theBarbiestar was asked about what he missed the most from his childhood days living in Scotland. The star was quick to point out that when he moved to London, the first thing that he missed was just how mannered and warm the people of his home country were.
He said that here, it was just a chaotic crowd when it came to getting on a bus instead of lining up as grandmas tried to push their way in. He said:
“People don’t queue for the bus in London, so it’ll just be like a free-for-all, like grannies getting elbowed out of the way. Grannies are the worst, like they’ll be hitting you.”
Along with coming into a new setting, the show also brought him to the forefront of the world, with people wanting to get close to him left and right. This instant shot to stardom was something that wasn’t easy to cope with for Gatwa as he was scared someone might jump him at any second. He said:
“Bruv, its so weird having people recognize you. And also, I live in Tottenham, like I live in the ends. So like, if someone just grabs your arm in the street, or if just someone comes up into your face, you might get slapped. I might slap you. A few times when you’re in Oxford Street and someone grabs your arm, it’s like I am ready, and then they’re like ‘Oh my god! I love you’. And then it’s like Oh OK, this is so odd. I don’t know how to take this.”
While it may have taken him a little bit of time to get used to all of this, in the end, the star did settle into his fame and is now looking forward to doing more in the industry.

You might be thinking about giving the show a go for yourself after hearing a lot of good things about it, but you might not know what to expect from it. This comedy/drama series tells the tale of a high-school student named Otis Milburn, who is a typical awkward high schooler who doesn’t seem to fit in with the rest of his peers.
But what the young man does possess is vast knowledge on the topic of intimate and s*xual relationships thanks to his single mother who is a Sex Therapist. When other students come to know about his life, he sees this as an opportunity to take his popularity to the next level among his peers.
