Success can often be defined by a single role that thrusts an actor into the public eye. That role was definitely Captain America for Chris Evans, which solidified his reputation as a Hollywood A-lister. But what if we told you that his path to becoming the adored superhero of Marvel may have been entirely different? What ifSunshine, his underappreciated movie, had received the praise it deserved?

Acknowledged for his role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor previously disclosed that his professional path could have been altered if his underrated movieSunshinehad been given the credit it deserved. Evans also discussed the factors that contributed to Danny Boyle’s science fiction thriller’s underappreciated success and how it affected his career.
The 2007 film, which starred an ensemble cast of Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne, and Michelle Yeoh, among others, explored a terrifying mission to reignite the dying Sun.

What if Chris Evans’SunshineWas Not A Box-Office Bomb?
Even thoughSunshinewas a box-office bomb,Chris Evansthought that the $32 million film would have had a big impact on his career if it had been seen by more people. His role as Captain America may have been a stereotype, but Danny Boyle’s film gave him a chance to prove his acting abilities outside of the superhero genre.
When the subject of Boyle’s highly regarded but seldom-seen movieSunshinewas raised, Evans spoke withMoviefoneas follows:

“I’d have a different career if people saw that.”
This was an interesting statement considering Evans is best known for playing the lead in one of the biggest hits,Captain America: The First Avenger. The actor expressed disappointment that he had not received much attention for his“good movies”. He continued by saying thatSunshinewas the movie he even“fell in love” with. In his words:

“All my good movies, nobody sees. Everybody goes and sees ‘Fantastic Four,’ but nobody sees ‘Sunshine.’ I’d have a different career if people saw that. I love that movie, man. I love Danny Boyle. I love that experience and I love that cast. That was one of those movies, top to bottom, I’m just in love with.”
It is possible to speculate that hadSunshinebeen a commercial success, Evans would have gained more recognition as an actor in addition to opening up new opportunities.
