However, Jackie Chan’s life was full of action way before he began acting in his movies. While we all know he worked as a stuntman, the renowned actor also took up the job of a bouncer once. After a while though, Jackie Chan realized he could no longer continue the profession after he thought he actually killed someone during a brawl.

“I believe in peace. I learnt to do martial arts when I was young and I wanted to be a bouncer, but after one particular fight I learnt that if you hurt someone you may actually hurt yourself.”

What could have possibly happened that was so bad that Chan had to rethink his life’s decision? Well, two days after knocking the stranger down, theRush Houractor found his tooth embedded into his hand. After the discovery, Chan was absolutely terrified thinking whether he had simply knocked the guy out or actually killed him. He would read newspapers every day for a month to try and get an update.

“I had a scuffle with someone and two days later I found out his tooth was still in my hand – I thought there was a problem with my bone. I didn’t know if I’d killed the guy or just knocked him down and I was petrified for a whole month. I read the newspapers every day to find out if I’d killed someone.”

Needless to say, the event was enough to scar Chan and force him to retire from the profession. That is not how he wanted to use his incredible martial art skills and he decided to move on to bigger and better things, preferably something which did not leave him petrified for weeks.

Jackie Chan’s Love for Action Almost Killed Him

Action runs in Chan’s veins and his bouncer days weren’t the only time he faced a death scare. Except this time, it was the actor knocking on death’s door. While filming a stunt forArmour of God(1986), Chan was not pleased with his first take and decided to film it again. In his attempt to achieve perfection, the actor faced a nearly-fatal accident.

Talking to Yahoo Entertainment, Chan stated that a little drinking was involved in the incident as the scene required the fizzing sound of a beer can.

“In the morning, I was drinking a beer in the movie. In this day, I’d probably be drinking a water. Then I jumped through a tree.”

Chan was not impressed by his swing and he wanted to swing“like a monkey.”What followed next was absolutely terrifying. During the second take, the limbs of the tree broke and Chan plunged downward and crashed into a rock. He stated,“My whole body was numb.”The actor was immediately rushed o the hospital as his ear began to bleed. He was under surgery where doctors treated his cracked skull and the bone that had pierced into his brain. Chan recalled,“I almost died.”In fact, the actor went into a coma that lasted for seven days.

This incident made him realize that it doesn’t matter whether the stunts are small or big, he needs to be extremely careful while performing them.
