Captain America Was the Reason the Avengers Lost to Thanos inAvengers: Infinity War,The MarvelsDirector Believes

The MarvelsdirectorNia DaCostabelieves that none butChris Evans‘ Captain America is to blame for what happened in theAvengers: Infinity War. All the suffering could have been avoided had Steve Rogers simply sacrificed his vision to prevent this event.

Recently, talking to thePhase Zeropodcast, DaCosta explained:

“The reason why it’s his fault is the reason why he’s such an amazing hero because he’s like, ‘we’re not gonna sacrifice anyone. Like, there always has to be another way.”

She continued,

“He was incorrect, but he was also right in the end because everything was fine. We did lose some people that we care about. But it is his fault because he should have just ripped that thing out of his homie’s head from the beginning.”

However, she noted that it’s part of why he’s such a great character.

“But then, again, that’s what makes him such a good character, and I think some of the amazing success of that first part of the MCU was those characters were so true to themselves, and they made sense. All of the decisions that they made, even if you didn’t agree with them, they made perfect sense to who they were. So, even though I blame him, I understand him.”

Was Captain America To Blame ForAvengers: Infinity War?

In the context ofAvengers: Infinity War, Captain America’s refusal to sacrifice Vision, even if it meant preventing Thanos from acquiring the Mind Stone, ultimately led to the devastating consequences of Thanos’s snap.

DaCosta argues that Captain America’s unwavering stance against sacrificing anyone, even in the face of overwhelming odds, ultimately led to Thanos’s victory.

To a certain extent, Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord is partly to blame for the defeat because he ruined an excellent plan that almost saw Iron Man, Spider-Man, and other heroes remove the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos. Star-Lord repeatedly punched Thanos after learning of Gamora’s demise, disrupting the other heroes’ jobs and eventually destroying the universe.
