Elizabeth Olsenrevealed that her love-making scenes inOldboywere particularly difficult. Olsen took on the role after pursuing the script but found the story unsettling. TheIngrid Goes Westactress was heartbroken and disturbed by the movie’s morally ambiguous plot. However, the 34-year-old actress praised her director, stating that Spike Lee was supportive throughout. In an interview with Wenn, Olsen explained:
“We were already like a family with the crew and Spike. It wasn’t something that was beaten around the bush. In our first meeting, Spike said, ‘What are we doing about that?’ I’m like, ‘Ok, I guess we’re talking about this now, which makes it easier’. He just wanted to know what I’m cool with and what I’m not cool with. What would be off limits is showing [my genitals]… but apparently everything else was a go. That’s all he wanted to know.”

Furthermore, theKodachromeactress later revealed that there were other distressing scenes in the film. Referring to a scene where she was attacked, Olsen said the scene stayed with her even days after and left a traumatic mark on her.

Elizabeth Olsen Admitted It Was Worse For Her Co-Star
WhileJosh Brolinhad shared the screen with Elizabeth Olsen in several MCU movies,Oldboywas a project they worked on before their roles in theAvengersseries. TheLiberal Artsactress’s discomfort during the s*x scene was lesser compared to her co-star Brolin, given that he has a daughter of similar age:
“It was probably weirder for him than for me because he has a daughter my age, so I’m sure that was weird for both of them.”

Elizabeth Olsen is no stranger to love scenes or getting naked for movie scenes. In a previous interview with Net-A-Porter’s digital magazine, The Edit, theCaptain America: Civil Waractress mentioned that she chooses to appear n*de in films only when she believes in the project’s artistic merit. Olsen emphasized she’ll never do a beauty shot in a bikini on a beach. She elaborated:
“I truly believe in the films I’ve chosen to be n*de [in]. It helps tell a more grotesque story. There’s nothing gratuitous about it, and it creates the opposite of pleasure. I find it empowering.”
