DC Comics has its fair share of dark moments. But the DC Extended Universe left out some of the darkest moments from the comics during the adaptation of movies. However, that may change with the release ofAquaman 2in DCU.

For those who are confused, after a soft reboot, DCEU is now essentially known as DCU. As a result, it has created a lot of confusion among the fanbase about whetherAquaman and the Lost Kingdommovie will be in the DCEU or DCU. Well, only time will tell.

Aquaman 2Could Feature Black Manta Abducting the Titular Character’s Son
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomis all set to be released in theaters on June 16, 2025. The film will still feature Jason Momoa as Aquaman, despite the soft reboot of the universe.
With the release date being closer than ever, a new trailer for the film was recently released. The trailer obviously featured Jason Momoa as Aquaman. Apart from that, fans also saw Aquababy in what was possibly the final trailer for the film before its release next month.

Speaking of the trailer, it hinted at one of the darkest moments in potentially the final film of the DCEU. The trailer already revealed that Black Manta will be looking forward to getting his revenge on Arthur Curry for his defeat in the firstAquamanmovie.
Black Manta will try to get his revenge by kidnapping Aquaman Jr. in the upcoming DCEU film. But that’s not the end of it. In fact, if the movie stays true to DC Comics, Manta will ultimately murder the titular character’s son.

It could be a tad bit too dark, but obviously, a befitting way to fulfill his promise of destroying Aquaman. The new trailer is full of action, featuring a plethora of battles, with Aquaman evidently showcasing his full strength.
Now whether he can protect his son from Black Manta’s invasion or not is something that fans will find out when the film finally releases in theaters worldwide.

IsAquaman 2the Last Movie in the DCEU?
With James Gunn taking over the role of co-CEO in 2022, the DC Extender Universe recently received a soft reboot after the failure of recent movies under the banner of the studio. The studio will now be known as DC Universe or DCU.
SinceAquaman and the Lost Kingdomwas already planned before the soft reboot, it essentially serves as the last movie in the DCEU. James Gunn has already confirmed that Blue Beetle will be the first character of the new DC.
In addition,Superman: Legacywill be the first film in the revamped DC Universe. While Gunn is yet to share an official statement aboutAquaman 2‘s alliance, it’s safe to assume that the film falls in the earlier version of DC.
Either way, it doesn’t matter if the movie is in DCEU or DCU, if it receives positive reviews from fans, something which has become a rare sight for recent movies under the studio’s banner.
CanAquaman and the Last Kingdomwill put an end to that streak? Well, we will find out once the movie is out in theaters.
