The series will follow the lives of Robin/Dick Grayson, Raven/Rache Roth, Korland’r/Starfire and Beast Boy/Gar Logan as they form Titans and protect their world against evil threats.

The idea ofTitansbegan as a potential TNT series back in 2014 but the pilot was pushed till 2016 by the network. Fortunately, DC was then working on its online streaming service and thought that ‘Titans’ will be a great start to the service. Johns said the following:

“It was an opportunity to do less of a conventional procedural show and more of a 12-hour movie.…We could focusinmore on character and push the envelope, in terms of content.”

The show draws on George Perez and Marv Wolfman’s New Teen Titans comics series that begins with Dick working in Detroit as a detective, trying to stay away from the life he led while being a sidekick toBatman. He meets Rachel, a troubled young girl who also happens to be the daughter of a demon. Rachel requests Dick to help her understand her powers. The actress who plays the character said the following:

“She’s connected to him because they share the same feeling of abandonment,” 14-year-old Croft says of her character. “It’s more of a father-daughter relationship.”

The two of them come across Beast Boy and Starfire on their way and although it does take time for the team to unite, it’s a worth the wait for Thwaites:

“My favorite scenes [were] fighting [alongside] those guys because, one, I feel like the actors that were cast were all brilliant and lovely to work with, and we all got along really well. But also, the scenes were quite difficult and [we had] night shoots in the winter in the snow, so I feel likethatc amaraderiejust in the actors alone hopefully transfers to the TV.”

As the season proceeds, the Titans also come across various familiar faces for the comics like Hawk, Wonder Girl Donna Toy, Jason Todd and Dove. Johns even took a nab at the two Robins saying:

“Jason Todd thinks being Robin is the coolest thing that could ever happen to somebody, and Dick’s experience is vastly different.”

While we expect Titans to diverge a bit from its source material, Johns promises the fans that the show will remain true to the comics:

“The Titans always feel relevant because it’s about characters that are lost and found families. That will always berelevant, because it’s human.”
