Having directed the 2007 movie titledZodiac,David Fincher has been given some shade for the open ending that the director kept. Since the ending of The Zodiac Killer remained unsolved, Fincher only showcased a single theory throughout the whole movie. When asked about it, Fincher simply stated that it was the only book that he bought for the movie!

Zodiacfollowed the tale of cartoonist Robert Graysmith who tried to solve the Zodiac killer’s case. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr in the movie, the movie was helmed as one of the finest movies made byDavid Fincher. Talking about how the movie ended on an open note, David Fincher clarified that the reason he followed Graysmith’s portrayal was that that was the only book that he bought!

“There was so much flak after Zodiac came out about people saying, ‘Why didn’t you go down this rabbit hole? Why did you only go down the Graysmith rabbit hole?’ That’s the book that we bought. We didn’t buy everyone’s book about the Zodiac.”

This wasn’t all since the director stated that he was afraid of being factually incorrect since according to him, anyone“can deck you in an airport”.The director himself claimed that he was afraid while making the movie.

With the premise of a serial killer on the loose, David Fincher stated that he was quite afraid while making the movie. Talking that the movie had to be very factually correct, Fincher claimed that he was afraid that anyone could come and deck him out at an airport.

“You have a responsibility to make sure that you are saying what you want to say because chances are they can deck you in an airport. So you want to be conscious and be smart about it. Making movies about things that are ripped from headlines is a slippery slope. I think it’s important to be responsible, and by the same token, you also have to entertain an audience.”

With Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role and Robert Downey Jr. starring alongside the actor,Zodiacreceived a rating of 7.7/10 on IMDB and a whopping 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.Zodiacis available to stream on Paramount+.
