Quantitatively speaking, a good amount ofSkyrimscan be fitted into the entire map ofStarfield. This open-world RPG is filled with over 1000 planets, desolate moons, tropical planets, pirate bases, and futuristic cities. Bethesda is known for making RPGs with huge maps. With Starfield being promised colossal, the scale feels considerably smaller than its predecessors.

Starfieldallows the player to explore the entirety of the universe. However, players thinking they’ll set off on some space adventure in their spaceship would be disappointed. Starfield features a vast map, and for that scale, it offers fast travel from planet to planet. However, several gamers have been concerned that using fast travel results in missing out on the “best” moments if you rely too much on fast travel.

How does fast travel ruin Starfield?
A user posted onRedditadvising all the novice players who are starting theirStarfieldjourney. He says in the post,“Don’t use fast travel to teleport from planet to planet.”
“Yes it’s more comfortable,”the user added,“but you’ll be missing out on what makes Bethesda’s game unique: travelling through space and throwing yourself into adventure.”

The user ends his post by saying,
“This allows for all the random encounters to happen in space, and honestly, some of the best things I’ve experienced in the game have been thanks to this change in play style.”

Apparently Starfield creatures can board your ship and stay on after you take off into space. Reddit user AQTBGL_DaddyIssues was wondering why they couldn’t fast travel until they realized an Ankylosaurus boarded their ship.#Starfieldpic.twitter.com/SowKWgyz2p

A lot ofStarfieldplayers agreed with this user. Avoiding fast travel opens a new game aspect that players will miss out on. Under the post, other players shared their own experiences and random encounters they’ve had while not using fast travel to venture through space. The aspect of fast travel makes this massive open-world game feel weirdly small. And it’s a bit ironic since the entire central point ofStarfieldis that space is impossibly huge and incredible and absolutely needs to be explored.

Bethesdabelieves that the dark voids ofStarfieldrepresent the reality of space.
“When the astronauts went to the moon, there was nothing there,”Ashley Cheng recently told theNYT.
“They certainly weren’t bored.”She also added thatStarfieldwasn’t a realistic simulation of the universe to begin with. There are space delinquents and magical artifacts in the game.
The major purpose ofStarfieldwas entertainment, and Bethesda clearly stated that they’re not beholden to reality. Cheng’s argument was also undermined by the fact that setting foot upon a celestial body in Starfield is nothing like exploring an undiscovered and inhabitable planet. Starfield also misses out on portraying the dangers and surprises that astronauts actually face on their space odyssey.
