Ubisoft’s action-adventure titleBeyond Good and Evilwas released back in 2003, and while players still await the sequel, the studio has announced theBeyond Good and Evil Remaster, which will be released sometime next year to celebrate the game’s 20th anniversary.
Ubisoft Announces Beyond Good and Evil Remaster After Accidental Release
Some information aboutBeyond Good and Evil Remasterleaked back in August this year when the ESRB rating page for the game was spotted, suggesting that Ubisoft has been working on a new version of the game. This was good news for players who have been waiting for the sequel. After a while,Beyond Good and Evil Remasterachievements were also spotted for Xbox, and then the Xbox Store listing was also seen for the game, but it was soon taken down.
However, Ubisoft accidentally uploaded the game for some of its Ubisoft+ subscription service members, which allowed them to play the game, and soon several clips and videos were shared on social media. Ubisoft tried to take down everything on the internet about the game by striking copyright claims.
It took down the store page for the game and a 30-minute gameplay video on YouTube. But it was too late, and the developer soon took toX/Twitterto announceBeyond Good and Evil Remaster. The post read:
Well, looks like the cat’s out of the bag, dagnammit. Happy 20th anniversary to Beyond Good & Evil! While we cannot wait to show you more about this special edition, more news to come in early 2024!
Ubisoft tried its best but to no avail, as no matter how much you try, something will still be available on the internet, and therefore, the images and clips are still circulating. According to the Xbox Store leak viaWario64,Beyond Good and Evil Remasteris said to feature enhanced visuals with improved graphics, controls, and sound. The game will also bring new auto-save and cross-save features, new exclusive rewards, new game modes, new achievements, and more.
Ubisoft also issued a statement onX/Twitterabout the leak and stated that the accidental release ofBeyond Good and Evil Remasteron Ubisoft+ was a mistake on its end. It also confirmed an early 2024 release. Ubisoft stated:
As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Beyond Good & Evil, our commitment to delivering a game that meets the high expectations of our fans is unwavering.
We’re excited to announce that the official launch is set for early 2024, and we’re dedicated to making it an experience that truly honors the legacy of the original. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
Ubisoft said that the“early development version”of the game was released, so what players are seeing online is not the final product, and the game will be polished more so that it is perfect for the official release next year.
Beyond Good and Evilwas released two decades ago, and it is about time that players get to play the remaster, even if it is not a sequel. Although Ubisoft has said that the game is in development, don’t rule out the possibility of playing a sequel in the future.
According to the leaked ESRB rating forBeyond Good and Evil Remaster, the game will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The Xbox Store leak had mentioned that the“game leverages Smart Delivery allowing access to both the Xbox One title and the Xbox Series X|S title,”so Xbox One players might also be able to play the game, but it cannot be said for certain yet.
