Best Video Crop Apps for Android & iOS (2020)

While there is no shortage ofvideo editing appsfor smartphones, most of these editing tools have a lot of options that the average user won’t use. If you’re looking for a way to just crop videos forInstagram, Facebook, or IGTV,  here are the best and simple video crop apps for both Android and iOS without watermark or any restrictions.

Best Video Crop Apps

1. Apple Photos

Before you head over to download a video editor, the native Photos app oniOSlets you crop videos natively. To do that, open the Photos app on your iPhone and select the video you’d like to crop. Next, tap on the Edit option in the top-right corner of the screen. At the bottom, you will have the “rotate & crop” icon, tap on it and you would be able to crop your video.

The cropping here is manual and you would have a crop guide overlay on the video. You can move it by holding the edges to zoom in. Moreover, you can move the crop overlay around to arrange your subject within the crop. Once you are satisfied with the crop, tap on the “Done” button at the bottom right to save the crop video. Keep in mind, it’ll overwrite your previous version of the video, so keep a backup in handy.

Apple Photos

Unfortunately, Google Photos can edit videos on Android but can’t crop it.

What’s good?

What’s not?

Unfortunately,Google Photoscan edit videos on Android but can’t crop it. so, we have to use a third-party app on Android.  Vita is the most mobile-friendly and advanced video editor I have used in a while. The UI is well designed to be used in portrait mode with your thumb. In order to crop a video, tap on the “Ratio” option at the bottom. Once done, you’ll have a host of aspect ratios to choose from.

Unlike Apple’s Photos app where you have to crop based on by your instinct, Vita provides you crop templates like 1:1, 16:9, 4:5, etc. which are super helpful. For instance, 16:9 is the ideal aspect ratio for YouTube whereas 4:5 is for Instagram posts and 9:16 is for Instagram stories. I really liked the aspect ratio templates. Apart from that, Vita has a whole suite of other video editing tools. Vita also has a huge library of stock images, videos, background music, and text templates. It’s more of like Canva with a video editor.

Quik by GoPro is the easiest video editing app on mobile. As soon as you import your video, Quik automatically edits it. you’re able to tap on the edit icon at the bottom and you will get a set of editing tools. The second option allows you to crop the video. Next, tap on it and it’ll cycle between 3 crop templates – Cinema, Portrait, Square. Now, cinema is something you would upload on YouTube whereas Square is ideal for Insta posts whereas Portrait is suitable for Insta stories and IGTV.

Quik, by default, adds a quick promo at the end of the video. However, you’re able to remove it by tapping on the bottom.

4. Kapwing

Kapwing is a simple easy to use web app that lets you resize and crop videos. Since it’s a web app, you can access it on any device. It has a set of built-in presets for Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Linkedin, etc that crop your video in the ideal aspect ratio. In case you upload similar videos to multiple social media platforms, Kapwing is the go-to option. Additionally, it also has a full-fledged online video editor with cloud storage.

The only caveat with Kapwing is that it doesn’t let you upload videos exceeding 250 MB. So, in case you shoot 4k or 1080p60, you would have to compress your video before uploading it. It offers a premium variant starting at $20/month which pushes the upload size to 1 GB.

VisitAbraia Crop Tool

InShot is probably one of the mostpowerful video editorsfor Android. Similar to Kapwing, you get crop templates according to social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc. My favorite option is that you can customize the background of the video in case it doesn’t fit the aspect ratio. Apart from this, InShot also offers a slew of editing tools to add transitions, color-correct footage, add graphics & text, etc.

InShot provides a watermark on the video which can be removed by paying a one-time fee of $2.99.

Closing Words

I use Abraia and Vita for most of my video crop and editing needs. It’s mostly the ideal option for most people out there. On a side note, Google has released a video AI tool calledAutoFliprecently. Hence, you might see a lot of video editors in the future that can automatically object track and crop your videos for Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc.
