Everything you need to know about the best Charge Blade build in Monster Hunter Wilds, including the Decorations, Artian Weapon, and more.
Charge Blade is considered by many as one of the most complicated weapon types in Monster Hunter, and for good reasons. The careful use ofPhials, overcharging mechanics, and the pressure of using transformation combos at the right time make it quite a difficult weapon to master, even for seasoned Monster Hunter players.

Despite its high learning curve, the Charge Blade is a weapon that can dish out an incredibly high amount of damage in a very short period of time. In fact, with the right elemental loadout, the Charge Blade can deal damage that will make a Great Sword jealous. However, much like the Long Sword, Charge Blade’s efficiency very much relies on the rest of the build.
Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to craft the best Charge Blade build in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Note: This build guide is updated according to the latest title update (TU1) of Monster Hunter Wilds, and takes into account the new additions to the game (Zoh Shia, Mizutsune, and their gear).
Monster Hunter Wilds Charge Blade Overview
Much like the Switch Axe, the Charge Blade excels at elemental damage. In fact, it’s one of the best weapons to use if you want to exploit a monster’s elemental weaknesses. In Monster Hunter Wilds, you can alsooverchargethe Charge Blade’s Phials, allowing you to extend your combos well beyond theAmped Elemental Discharge. Furthermore, the transformation combos are also now easier to pull off, thanks to theFocus Mode. While you still have to be mindful of charging yourPhials, it’s no longer a complicated process. Since overcharging is a thing in MH Wilds, you’ll have plenty of time to bank your Phial charges, before the Sword starts bouncing off of monsters.
In addition to that, Charge Blade’s elemental attacks have received a slight buff, especially with the introduction of theFocus Strike–Double Rend. Although the Charge Blade is an excellent choice for elemental damage, it does have a few limitations. Due to its transformation combos, it’s not an easy weapon to just pick up and play. Furthermore, while the weapon’sAxe Modeis quite potent in terms of damage, theSword Modeisn’t particularly great. Thankfully, you won’t have to worry about any aerial combos for the Charge Blade, akin toSword and Shield.

Here’s an explanation of how these factors come into play for the best Charge Blade build in MH Wilds:

Increased Elemental Damage
Charge Blade excels at elemental damage; as such, it’s a no-brainer to use some elemental damage-enhancing skills for this build. We chose to useDragon/KOandCritical ElementJewels. You can replace Quickswitch/Dragon with another element, based on your Charge Blade’s elemental affinity. However, verify to always useCritical Elementwith this weapon. Critical Element essentially lets you deal bonus elemental damage on critical hits. With the Charge Blade’sAEDorSAED, you’re always going to land crits, even with 20%Affinity.
Emphasis on Critical Damage
To enhance the critical damage, we have also used anExpert JewelLevel 3, which grants additionalAffinity. This lets us bypass the 20% base threshold of the Artian Weapon, making landing crits much easier. Furthermore, Crit Jewels work really well withCritical Element, which is an essential part of any Charge Blade build. you’re able to also add additionalExpert Jewelsto further increase the weapon’s Affinity. However, Expert Jewels, much like theAttack Jewels, are quite rare, even withWyvern Melding. Alternatively, you can also use Enhancer, which will help increase the efficiency of yourPhials.
Focus on Wounds
Creating and destroying wounds is one of the easiest ways to deal raw and elemental damage to monsters. To make it easier to create wounds, we have used theChainblade Charm II, which adds to theFlayerskill. Furthermore, to facilitate Flayer, we have also includedTenderizerJewels for easier partbreaks. The Double Rend (Focus Strike) combo for the Charge Blade is incredibly potent when it comes to dealing elemental damage and toppling monsters. As such, having skills like Flayer, Partbreak, and Weakness Exploit comes in really handy.
