Amber Heard onAquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Amber Heardgained extreme media attention after her highly publicized legal battle with her former husband, Johnny Depp. Even though the legal dispute at first glance seemed unrelated to her line of profession, it undoubtedly had an impact on her reputation and cast doubt on whether she would continue working inAquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The actress, 37, admitted toDeadlinethat she has high hopes forAquaman and the Lost Kingdomdespite DC’s recent run of superhero flops:

“Oh, of course. These are very different kinds of projects representing two very different ends of the spectrum in my industry. There’s a ton of pressure on these big franchise movies, with millions and millions of dollars at stake, and compromises are part of trying to make it the most successful thing it can be. Then on the other end of the spectrum is a small indie film like ‘In The Fire,’ a work of art and work of love, with nowhere near the same resources, and so there are compromises there. The best luck you’re able to have as an actor is to be able to balance both.”

Heard also acknowledged that she is“honored” to be a part of theAquamanfranchise and expressed surprise that her role as Mera inAquaman 2has remained:

“‘Aquaman’, that franchise and the machinery behind it, I’m very honored, honored to be a part of that. And then there are these small passion projects like ‘In The Fire,’ where I’m proud to have gotten to know the filmmaker and the cast, and we got dirty together, to breathe life into this story. There’s something cool about that, and I think success is an actor who is able to have both those things.”

The film also stars Patrick Wilson, Randall Park, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren, Nicole Kidman, Temuera Morrison, and Jason Momoa.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomis set to be released on August 16, 2025.
