As DC Studios stars afresh with a new chapter, a horde of new projects comprising the first part of the DC Universe are on the horizon. From Batman to Supergirl films, James Gunn, who’s running the show with Peter Safran, has a multitude of exciting ventures that will make up Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. But perhaps one of the most anticipated films out of them all is Gunn’s own prized possession,Superman: Legacy.

After Henry Cavill’s departure as the beloved superhero, the fandom was utterly devastated, lashing out at the studio heads and lamenting the loss of one of their favorite stars. But now that the storm has fizzled out, people seem to be curious about what Gunn has planned for the upcoming Superman film. And it looks like Clark Kent isn’t the only one getting replaced in it.

James Gunn to Introduce The Authority inSuperman: Legacy

A new report byTHRstates thatHenry Cavill‘s Superman isn’t the only major character who will be superseded, the entirety of the Justice League is on the brink of annihilation, or so it seems. According to the magazine outlet,James Gunnwill not only recast Clark Kent and Lois Lane for his new filmSuperman: Legacy, but he’s also gearing up to introduce The Authority in it.

A couple of months back when Gunn, 56, laid down the blueprint of DCU for fans, he also announced that The Authority’s first live-action debut is going to be a“big movie.”Since the ruthless superhero team is already set to play a monumental role in the forthcoming DC Studios slate, should the rumors be true,Superman: Legacycould very well establish a base for the former’s big-screen debut.

The Authority

The Authority is a brutal legion of cynical and hard-boiled superheroes who were first brought to life in 1999 thanks to Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch. While the line-up consists of some of the most indefatigable forces on planet Earth, they are essentially the good guys. They’re just the category of good guys who couldn’t care less about collateral damage or innocent bystanders as long as they’re putting down the bad guys.

So, at the end of the day, The Authority is a team of superheroes much like Justice League, only twice as violent and way more menacing than the latter.

DC Fans Once Again Find Themselves Divided

While fans, for the most part, seem to be thrilled with this potential feature in Gunn’sLegacy, some few seem to have their doubts about the same. But then again, it’s nearly impossible to see the audience have a unanimous vote on practically anythingThe Suicide Squaddirector has in store for them, well, except for when he removed Cavill from DC.

As for The Authority, the original line-up in the Ellis’ Wildstorm comic book universe was led by Jenny Sparks, aka, the Spirit of the 20th Century. The rest of the squad encompassed the likes of Apollo, aka, you guessed it right, The Sun God, Lucas Trent or The Midnighter, Angela Spica, aka, The Engineer, and The God of Cities, Jack Hawksmoor, who served as the leader of The Authority for a good while on two different occasions.

While there are numerous other characters, the aforementioned are the key members of the team.

Superman: Legacywill hit the screens on August 19, 2025.
