6 Apple (AI) Intelligence Features Not Shipping With iOS 18.1
Apple promised many Apple Intelligence (AI) features at their event however none were shipped to the buyers with iOS 18. The first wave of Apple Intelligence features will be arriving with the iOS 18.1 update that is due later this month. However, there are still several Apple Intelligence features that Apple won’t push through with the upcoming iOS 18.1 update. Here they are in no particular order.

1. Genmoji
Genmoji uses AI magic tocreate emojisthat don’t exist. Just give a prompt and Apple Intelligence will generate a new emoji, called Genmoji, from scratch. You can generate anything and Apple shared some examples in the keynote.

2. Image Playground
Image Playground is a standalone text-to-image AI generator. Simply type out a prompt and it will generate an image. But that’s not what I like about this Apple Intelligence (AI) feature. What I like is the fact that you can also add an existing image and then edit it further to add elements.
3. Priority Notifications
There are already a few ways to manage your notifications but iOS 18 will bring a new and much-needed transformation. Priority Notifications will display important notifications that you must read immediately at the top while notifications that are deemed not so important will be pushed down. Some examples include OTPs, bills, meetings, events, tickets, etc.

4. Image Wand
Think of Image Wand as Image Playground but for the Notes app. So you’re able to now add and edit images inside the Notes app making it intuitive and fun to take notes. People use the Notes app to sketch, design, visualize how things would look, and more. Now instead of using your finger or Apple Pencil, you can also use Image Wand. Just give a prompt and it will generate an image within moments.
Talking about the Apple Pencil, iPad users can draw or sketch some shapes, doesn’t even have to be perfect, and it will generate something out of it.
5. ChatGPT Integration
Apple may haveopted out of its plans to invest in OpenAIbut it is on track to integrate ChatGPT in iOS. Just not immediately. iOS 18.1 will bring several new features to the table but will miss out on ChatGPT for now.
Apple already has Siri but that’s quite limited when compared to ChatGPT. Siri will continue to handle your everyday simple queries but more complex questions will be answered by ChatGPT instead. At this point, it is not clear if the feature will be completely free or will follow a freemium model.
Talking about Siri, Apple’s homegrown personal assistant is getting a number of new features and capabilities. One is ChatGPT powerup but there is more.
An interesting feature is onscreen awareness where Siri will be able to answer questions or carry out actions based on what is on your iPhone screen. For example, if you have an event page open, Siri can it to the Calendar. It can write a how-to guide on how to use a feature that you found in the Settings app.

Personal context is where Siri will be able to answer questions or perform actions based on your personal information. Some details it already has like your name, age, etc. But it will learn more about you as you use it, like a friend, and then will be able to make suggestions based on your habits, diet, etc. It will help you find some specific message or photo you took on a trip long ago, or that email you forgot to reply to.
